Main causes of anemia
Iron Deficiency Anemia: This is the most common cause of anemia worldwide. The body needs iron to make hemoglobin. The main reason for this is a lack of iron-rich foods in the diet.
Blood Loss: Blood loss due to excessive menstruation, ulcers in the digestive system, piles, and cancer can lead to anemia.
Vitamin Deficiency: Vitamin B12 and folic acid are essential for the body to make red blood cells. A lack of these in the diet (e.g., B12 deficiency in vegetarians) can cause anemia.
Chronic Diseases: Cancer, HIV, rheumatoid arthritis, and kidney diseases can interfere with the production of blood cells.
Bone marrow problems: Bone marrow is unable to produce blood cells (e.g. leukemia).
Genetic diseases: Conditions such as sickle cell anemia and thalassemia cause blood cells to die quickly.
