Reasons for cataracts
Aging: This is the most common reason. In people over the age of 50, the proteins in the lens change, thickening it and blurring vision.
Diabetes: Uncontrolled blood sugar levels can cause cataracts to develop very early.
UV Radiation: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight (especially without using glasses) increases the risk of cataracts.
Smoking: Smoking harms the cells in the lens.
Eye injuries: Previous eye injuries, surgeries, or eye infections can cause cataracts.
Medication use: Long-term use of steroid medications increases the risk of cataracts.
Heredity: If someone in your family has had cataracts at a young age, it can be hereditary.
Main symptoms:
Blurred vision (feeling like it’s foggy).
Difficulty seeing at night.
Feeling uncomfortable and light scattering when looking at light.
Not being able to see colors as clearly as before.
Having to change the power of your glasses frequently.
