Main causes of knee pain
Osteoarthritis: This is a condition in which the cartilage between the bones of the knee wears down as we age. This is the most important cause of knee pain.
Obesity: Excess weight puts excessive pressure on the knees. As the body weight increases, the wear and tear of the knees accelerates.
Injuries: Damage to the ligaments or cartilage (meniscus) in the knee can cause pain. This is common when engaging in sports activities.
Rheumatoid Arthritis/Gout: Inflammation in the joints and diseases such as gout due to increased uric acid can cause severe knee pain.
Muscle weakness: If the thigh muscles are weak, the knees have to bear more strain.
Lifestyle: Long-term sitting, lack of exercise, and excessive climbing and descending stairs can cause knee pain.
Nutritional deficiency: Vitamin D and calcium deficiency can affect bone strength and cause pain.
