Symptoms of a heart attack

Although a heart attack often seems sudden, the body can give you some warning signs minutes or hours before:

Chest discomfort: Feeling a sharp pressure, heaviness, or burning pain in the chest. This can last for several minutes.

Pain in other parts of the body: Pain that spreads to the left arm, shoulder, neck, or jaw is a major symptom.

Difficulty breathing: Feeling short of breath with or without chest pain.

Excessive sweating: The body suddenly breaks out in a cold sweat or without exertion.

Dizziness and fatigue: Feeling faint or extremely weak.

Nausea and stomach upset: These are symptoms that can be mistaken for gas problems.

The symptoms of a heart attack may not be the same for men and women.

Women often experience shortness of breath or jaw pain.

If you see these signs, you should not panic and seek medical help immediately.

Getting treatment within the first hour, called the ‘golden hour,’ can help reduce the damage to the heart muscle.
