Proper nutrition and hair care are essential to control hair loss. Avoid combing your hair when it is wet. Drinking plenty of water and practicing yoga or meditation to reduce stress are also beneficial. It is advisable to see a doctor for sudden hair loss and get a blood test to determine the cause.
Although it is natural to lose a few hairs a day (50-100), excessive hair loss can be due to the following reasons:
Nutritional deficiency: If the diet is deficient in iron, protein, vitamin D, and zinc, hair will fall out quickly. Anemia is a major cause of hair loss.
Stress: Excessive stress can cause a condition called ‘telogen effluvium’. This causes hair to separate from the roots and fall out in droves.
Hormonal changes: Thyroid problems, pregnancy, menopause, and PCOS cause hormonal changes that cause hair loss.
Genetics: If someone in the family has baldness, there is a possibility of hereditary hair loss (Androgenetic Alopecia).
Dandruff and scalp infections: Dandruff and fungal infections cause itchy scalp and weaken hair roots.
Excessive use of chemicals: Hair straightening, regular use of dyes, and use of heating machines can damage the health of hair.
Lack of sleep and water changes: Lack of proper sleep and washing your hair with salt water can also cause hair loss.
