Main reasons for melasma
Sun Exposure: Ultraviolet (UV) rays in sunlight increase the production of melanin in the skin. This is the most important cause of melasma.
Hormonal Changes: Changes that occur in women during pregnancy, while using birth control pills, and during hormone treatments can cause melasma. This is also called the ‘mask of pregnancy’.
Genetics: If your parents or siblings have melasma in your family, you are more likely to get it.
Cosmetics: Using creams, soaps, and cosmetics that are not suitable for your skin or that are of poor quality can cause allergies and melasma on the skin.
Medications: Some medications can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and cause sunburn.
