Main causes of diabetes
Insulin disorders:
Type 1 diabetes: The body stops producing insulin completely. This often happens because the body’s immune system destroys the cells in the pancreas.
Type 2 diabetes: The insulin produced by the body does not work effectively enough (Insulin Resistance). The pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to meet the body’s needs.
Genetics: If parents or close relatives have diabetes, their children are more likely to develop diabetes.
Lifestyle disorders:
Lack of exercise: A sedentary lifestyle is a major risk factor for diabetes.
Overweight: Excess body fat, especially belly fat, causes insulin resistance.
Dietary habits: Excessive consumption of processed foods, sugary drinks, sweets, and foods high in carbohydrates can lead to diabetes.
Stress: Excessive stress stimulates hormones that increase blood sugar levels.
Age and other diseases: Increasing age, high blood pressure (BP), and cholesterol also increase the risk of diabetes.
What can be done?
Healthy diet: Include low-starch and fiber-rich foods (vegetables, whole grains).
Regular exercise: Walk briskly or exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.
Weight control: Maintain a healthy weight.
Blood tests: Check blood sugar levels at regular intervals.
Reduce stress: Practice yoga and meditation.
