Reasons for Knee Pain and Wear and Tear

Aging: The constant pressure on the knees over time causes the cartilage in the knees to wear down. This causes the bones to rub against each other and cause pain.

Obesity: Being overweight puts extra weight on the knees. The increased weight the knees have to bear each time they walk accelerates the wear and tear.

Previous injuries: Knee injuries sustained in childhood (such as fractures and ligament tears) can cause imbalances in the knees over time and lead to wear and tear.

Genetics: People with a family history of knee pain or joint problems are more likely to develop bone wear and tear.

Muscle weakness: If the quadriceps muscles that support the knees are weak, more pressure will be placed on the knee joints and pain will increase.

Continuous stress (Overuse): Strenuous sports, sitting on the floor for long periods of time, and climbing stairs excessively accelerate the wear and tear of the knee.
