Main reasons for the appearance of stretch marks
Pregnancy: Most women develop stretch marks due to the rapid expansion of the abdominal skin during pregnancy.
Rapid weight gain or loss: Rapid weight gain and rapid weight loss can stretch the skin, causing stretch marks.
Puberty: During adolescence, when the body grows rapidly (growth spurts), the rapid development of bones and muscles stretches the skin and causes stretch marks.
Excessive muscle growth: Stretch marks are often seen on the shoulders and arms in body builders due to rapid muscle growth.
Genetics: If your parents had stretch marks, you are more likely to get them.
Medical causes (Corticosteroids): Long-term use of creams containing corticosteroids can reduce skin elasticity and cause stretch marks. Some rare medical conditions can also cause them.
