Autoimmune Disorder: The most important cause is when our body’s immune system mistakenly destroys the melanin-producing cells (melanocytes) in the skin. This occurs when the immune system mistakes the body’s own cells as foreign invaders.
Genetics: If someone else in the family has melanocytic acne, the risk of developing it is higher. However, it is not inherited in everyone.
Neural factors: It is also said that certain toxins released from nerve cells destroy melanocytes.
Oxidative Stress: Certain chemical imbalances in skin cells can cause the destruction of these cells.
Other medical conditions: People with autoimmune diseases such as thyroid problems, type 1 diabetes, and pernicious anemia are more likely to develop melanocytic acne.
Skin trauma: Some people may experience whiteheads after burns, severe allergies to sunlight, or wounds.
