Main causes of high cholesterol
Dietary habits:
Saturated Fat: Fat found in red meat (beef, mutton), dairy products (ghee, butter, cream), and yogurt.
Trans Fat: Harmful fat found in biscuits, bakery products, and fried and fried foods.
Lack of exercise: A sedentary lifestyle reduces good cholesterol (HDL) and increases bad cholesterol (LDL).
Obesity: As you gain weight, your blood cholesterol levels are likely to increase.
Smoking and alcohol: Smoking damages the walls of blood vessels and causes cholesterol to accumulate.
Age and gender: The risk of high cholesterol increases with age. Cholesterol levels are found to increase in women after menopause.
Genetics: If your parents or close relatives have high cholesterol in your family, you are more likely to have it (Familial Hypercholesterolemia).
Other medical conditions: Diabetes, thyroid problems, and kidney disease can cause high cholesterol.
