The main causes of Dementia / Alzheimer’s Disease are as follows:

The main causes of Dementia:
Aging:
The most important cause of Dementia or Alzheimer’s is the natural wear and tear of brain cells as we age. It is usually more common in people over the age of 65.

Genetics / Family History:
If parents or close relatives have had Alzheimer’s disease in the family, then there is a higher risk of developing it genetically (especially through genes such as APoE4).

Protein Plaques & Tangles in Brain Cells:
The abnormal accumulation of ‘Amyloid’ protein between brain cells and ‘Tau’ protein inside cells causes the destruction of brain cells.

Vascular Issues:
Reduced blood flow to the brain due to high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease or minor strokes can cause vascular dementia.

Head Injuries:
Severe head injuries from accidents or playground accidents can increase the risk of dementia in the future.

Unhealthy lifestyle and other health problems:
Lack of exercise, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, severe stress, obesity, and lack of sleep can affect brain health and lead to memory loss.
