Main causes of knee pain
Osteoarthritis:
As you age, the cartilage between the bones in the knee wears down. This causes the bones to rub together and cause pain.
Obesity:
When you gain weight, all the pressure is felt on the knees. Being overweight accelerates the wear and tear on the knees and increases pain.
Injuries:
ACL Tear: Damage to the ligaments in the knee during sports or accidents can cause severe pain.
Meniscus Injury: Injuries to the cushion-like part inside the knee.
Arthritis:
Rheumatoid arthritis: A condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the joints in the knee.
Gout: Increased levels of uric acid in the blood cause the formation of crystals in the joints and pain.
Muscle weakness:
If the thigh muscles (Quadriceps) are weak, the knee has to struggle more to support the weight of the knee. This leads to pain.
Lifestyle:
Working continuously while sitting on the floor, going up and down stairs excessively, and lack of exercise can also affect the knee.
