Main causes of knee pain
Osteoarthritis:
As we age, the soft part of the knee called ‘Cartilage’ that prevents the bones in the knee from rubbing against each other wears down. This is the most important cause of knee pain in adults.
Injuries:
Ligament Injuries: Injuries to the ligaments in the knee (especially the ACL) can occur during sports activities and other activities.
Meniscus Tear: A tear in the cushion-like area between the bones of the knee.
Obesity:
As body weight increases, the knees take on more weight than they can handle, which puts a lot of pressure on the joints.
Overuse:
Continuous climbing stairs, running, and strenuous exercise can strain the muscles and joints in the knee.
Arthritis:
Rheumatoid Arthritis: A condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the joints.
Gout: Severe pain caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints.
Muscle weakness:
If the muscles around the knee (especially the thigh muscles) are weak, the knee will not receive adequate protection and will experience pain.
