Main causes and triggers of migraines

Genetic factors: If your parents or close relatives have migraines in your family, you are more likely to get them.

Hormonal changes: Changes in the estrogen hormone that occur before and after menstruation in women can cause migraines.

Foods: Certain foods can cause migraines (for example: chocolate, cheese, caffeinated drinks, alcohol, artificial sweeteners/Aspartame).

Stress: Severe mental stress or changes in stress levels can trigger migraines.

Sleep changes: Sleeping too much or not getting enough sleep (insomnia) is a major cause.

Situations: Bright light, loud noise, strong smells (perfume, smoke), and weather changes can cause sudden pain in people with migraines.

Dehydration: Not drinking enough water can worsen migraines.
