Main causes of knee pain

Osteoarthritis: This is the most common cause in older people. The cartilage that protects the bones in the knee wears down, causing the bones to rub against each other, causing pain and swelling.

Injuries: Injuries to the ligaments or meniscus in the knee due to falls, sports, or sudden movements can cause severe pain.

Obesity: As you gain weight, your knees have to bear more weight with each step. This puts excessive pressure on the joints, leading to wear and tear and pain.

Arthritis: Arthritis diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and gout can cause severe pain and swelling in the knees.

Muscle weakness: If the muscles around the knee (e.g. Quadriceps) are weak, the joints will not get the support they need and will experience pain.

Lifestyle: Working on the floor for long periods, excessive use of Indian toilets, and standing in one position for long periods can affect the knee.

Vitamin deficiency: Deficiency of vitamin D and calcium in the body can affect the strength of bones and cause pain.
