Risk Factors for Breast Cancer

Gender and Age: Breast cancer is more common in women. The risk of developing the disease increases with age.

Genetics: If close relatives (mother, sister) in the family have had breast cancer, the risk is higher. In addition, those with genetic mutations such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 are at a higher risk.

Menstruation and menopause: Early menstruation (before the age of 12) or late menopause (after the age of 55) increases the duration of estrogen hormone activity, thereby increasing the risk.

Lifestyle:

Overweight: Being overweight after menopause increases the risk of breast cancer.

Alcohol: Excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk.

Lack of exercise: A physically inactive lifestyle.

Hormone treatments: Taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for a long time may increase the risk in some people.

Late childbirth: The risk may be slightly higher if the first child is born after the age of 30.
