Osteoarthritis: This is a condition in which the cartilage that covers the bones of the knee wears down with age. Symptoms include pain, swelling, and clicking when moving the joint.
Injuries: Injuries to the ligaments or meniscus in the knee during sports or accidents can cause severe pain.
Obesity: As you gain weight, excessive pressure is placed on the knees with each step. This causes rapid wear and tear.
Muscle weakness: If the muscles in the thigh (Quadriceps & Hamstrings) are weak, the knee will lose its balance and become painful.
Arthritis: Diseases such as Gout or Rheumatoid Arthritis can cause swelling and pain in the knees.
Tendinitis: Inflammation of the tendons that connect the kneecap to the muscles. This is common in people who do excessive stair climbing or running.
