Main causes and risks
Family History & Genetics: If there is a history of breast cancer in the family (mother, sisters), the risk is higher. In addition, some genetic mutations such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 are also inherited.
Age: The risk of breast cancer increases with age. Most cases are found in women over 50 years of age.
Hormonal changes:
Early onset of menstruation (before the age of 12).
Late menopause (after the age of 55).
Not having children or having children late.
Taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for a long time.
Lifestyle:
Obesity: Being overweight after menopause increases the risk.
Alcohol: Excessive alcohol consumption has been shown to increase the risk of the disease.
Lack of physical activity: A lifestyle without exercise.
Radiation: If you have had radiation treatment for any disease in the chest area during childhood or adolescence, the risk is higher.
Previous breast problems: If you have previously had non-cancerous tumors (benign tumors) or changes in the cells in the breasts, some attention is needed.
